Aramid Flat Braids

Aramid flat braids are high-performance braided reinforcement tapes produced from woven aramid fibres in a non-tubular flat braid construction.

Designed to deliver excellent flexibility, impact resistance and fibre conformity, these braided tapes are particularly suited to reinforcement applications requiring complex shaping, edge reinforcement and high damage tolerance.

Manufactured with fibres positioned at approximately ±45°, aramid flat braids provide excellent drapability and consistent fibre distribution, making them highly effective in structural joints, seams and reinforcement transitions within composite laminates.

Key Benefits

  • Excellent drapability and flexibility

  • High abrasion and wear resistance

  • Consistent fibre placement throughout the braid

  • Good impact and crack resistance

  • Lightweight reinforcement solution

  • Suitable for complex geometries and curved surfaces

  • Compatible with epoxy, polyester and vinyl ester resin systems

Product Range

Cristex supplies a range of aramid flat braids in multiple widths and weights to support a variety of composite reinforcement applications.

The braids are supplied by the linear metre, with widths specified at approximately ±45° orientation.

Applications

Aramid flat braids are commonly used across composite applications including:

  • Composite panel joints and seams

  • Marine reinforcement structures

  • Canoes and kayak seam reinforcement

  • Edge reinforcement and local strengthening

  • Impact-resistant composite structures

  • Structural bonding transitions

Their flexibility and toughness make them particularly effective in applications where resistance to cracking, buckling and impact damage is important.
