Unidirectional Fabric

Unidirectional fabric is constructed where the majority of fibres run in one direction typically 0˚ or 90˚ and a small number of fibres run in an alternate direction to hold the primary fibres in position.

The Benefits

  • Optimised mechanical performance through fibre alignment in the primary load direction
  • High areal weights available (up to 2,000g/m² and above) for structural applications
  • Improved resin flow characteristics in infusion and RTM processes, reducing the risk of dry spots
  • Enhanced laminate consistency and quality, particularly in thicker sections
  • Efficient processing and handling, supporting repeatability in manufacturing

What We Offer

The current range of unidirectional (UD) fabrics includes Glass, Carbon and Aramid fibres, available in a standard weight range from 155g to 1200g (Glass) and 80g to 1200g (Carbon).

For applications requiring enhanced process efficiency and laminate quality, advanced solutions such as Steady Plus and Magic Flow are available. These engineered non-crimp fabrics are designed to optimise resin flow during infusion and RTM processes, helping to reduce dry spots, improve wet-out, and enhance consistency in finished components.

Steady Plus integrates a flow-enhancing layer within the fabric structure, supporting faster and more controlled resin distribution, while Magic Flow is specifically developed for thick laminate applications, enabling high flow rates through component thicknesses of up to 140 mm. This makes it particularly suited to demanding structural parts where maintaining laminate quality and reducing infusion time are critical.

These materials support improved processing reliability and component performance across advanced manufacturing applications.
