SAERfix® Marine Infusion Case Study
The Aim
Pascoe International’s manufacturing process of choice is Vacuum Infusion (VI). VI is a composite fabrication technique where dry fabrics are laid into a mould, the whole dry laminate is then vacuum bagged. The vacuum differential drives the resin into the laminate.
To aid the manufacturing process, historically clients have used spray adhesive to hold dry laminates in position in the mould before Infusion.
Cristex was approached to improve the processability of the dry fabrics. The proposal was to use Saertex’s Carbon and Glass Non-Crimp Fabrics (NCF) with SAERfix®.
SAERfix® NCF’s are self-adhesive – they aid the process of draping the laminate into complex shapes and eliminate the need for spray adhesives.
The Advantages
- Self adhesive – time saving (±50%) and repeatable
- No environmental polution
- Multi-compatible – Polyester, Vinylester & Epoxy systems
The Result
The end results met all of our expectations. The use of SAERfix® NCF’s have improved our quality, reduced costs and improved productivity. We look forward to working with Cristex on future projects. – Pascoe International
